Six prominent former students were honored at the College of Arts and Sciences’ 2024 Outstanding Former Student Spring Awards Banquet, held February 29 in the Memorial Student Center’s Bethancourt Ballroom.

Victoria L.E. Clark ’15, Llewellyn A. Derry I ’88, Dr. Vernon E. Kenner ’73, Dr. Stephanie N. Stevenson ’12, William R. “Bill” Thomas ’75 and the late Cynthia Woods Mitchell and George P. Mitchell ’40 all received awards among a crowd of 200 guests.

Clark and Stevenson received the college’s Outstanding Young Former Student Award, while Derry and Kenner received the Outstanding Former Student Award.

“It is no secret that Aggies are special,” College of Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Mark Zoran said. “And once they graduate, they go on to do great things… Tonight, we are very proud to recognize our outstanding former students… I am sure you will agree that they are excellent examples of Aggies who are leaders in their field and who have made a significant impact on their community and our university.”

In addition, Zoran recognized Thomas, recipient of the Michel T. Halbouty Geosciences Medal named for an accomplished Aggie and geosciences supporter; and the Mitchells, recipients of the college’s inaugural Torchbearer Award “for generosity so impactful that it provided a light so bright it was a beacon to attract much greatness to Texas A&M and guide our path into the future.”

Scholarship and fellowship recipients and their donors were able to connect in person during the event.

“We are taking a moment to recognize the generosity of those who have chosen to create endowments with the Texas A&M Foundation to establish scholarships and fellowships to provide financial support for our students,” said Dr. Leroy Dorsey, associate dean for student success. “This provides an opportunity to be recognized, but, more importantly, an opportunity to say thank you to the donors in person.”

Zoran also expressed his gratitude to the donors, whose support for the college remains steadfast.

“Tonight, we are gathered to recognize and thank a group of generous donors who have supported more than 200 scholarships and fellowships,” Zoran said. “Scholarship and fellowship gifts offer our students an opportunity to pursue their dreams and are the foundational support for achieving success. Thank you, donors, for your generosity and commitment to our students and university.”
