TexSyn VI will feature lectures by synthetic chemistry leaders from Texas and beyond, along with panel discussions, student poster sessions and networking opportunities reflective of the dynamic real-world environment of synthetic chemistry and related careers.

Chemists from across Texas will gather at Texas A&M University this weekend to learn more about the latest research, achievements and scholarship in the field of synthetic chemistry throughout the state during the sixth iteration of the biannual TexSyn Conference, set for May 31 and June 1 in the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building.

Every other year since 2013, the celebratory event geared toward faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral researchers as well as industry has rotated between host campuses in Texas to showcase the rich legacy of synthetic chemistry around the Lone Star State through a combined display of excellence across academic and industry sectors.

Texas A&M’s two-day TexSyn VI extravaganza will feature lectures by leaders in synthetic chemistry from Texas and beyond, along with panel discussions, student poster sessions and networking opportunities reflective of the dynamic real-world environment of synthetic chemistry and related careers. The conference is presented by the Texas A&M Department of Chemistry and co-chaired by Texas A&M chemists Dr. David Powers and Dr. Quentin Michaudel.

Friday’s half-day agenda will open with registration at 1 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. informational session highlighting panelists from Pfizer, Kraton Corporation and MD Anderson Cancer Center and related one-on-one meeting opportunities. A 4:30 p.m. three-minute thesis competition and 6 p.m. reception will close out first-day activities.

TexSyn VI’s power-packed Saturday presentation slate will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and feature respective morning and afternoon keynote addresses from Dow Chemical Company’s Dr. Bindu Krishnan and Cornell University’s Dr. Song Lin, along with talks by Baylor University's Dr. Liela Bayeh-Romero, Texas A&M's Dr. Andy Thomas, Trinity University's Dr. Christina Cooley, the University of Houston's Dr. Jeremy May, the University of Texas at Austin's Dr. Cassandra Callmann and the University of Texas at Dallas's Dr. Filippo Romiti. The day also will include lunch and two poster presentation sessions.

"We have a great line-up of speakers, a recruiting event for students and postdocs, and a three-minute thesis competition," Michaudel said. "We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to Aggieland, celebrating chemistry in Texas and learning about some exciting science."

In addition to Texas A&M Chemistry, TexSyn VI is sponsored by the Texas A&M College of Arts and Sciences, Avantor, ChemScene, IKA, MilliporeSigma, Pfizer and the Texas A&M Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS)
