Preparing The Leaders of Tomorrow

Your donations to the Legacy Through Leadership campaign will fund scholarships to help prepare Arts & Sciences Leadership Scholars (ASLS) to become critically thinking leaders.

Gifts provide scholarships that allow students to participate in two key program goals:

  • To create a supportive and inclusive environment for first-generation students while they achieve their academic potential.
  • To incorporate resources and opportunities that engage these scholars and allow them to build their confidence as they progress through undergraduate degrees.

Our team is focused on the following components of the ASLS program:

  • Assistance from professionals with ArtSci Undergraduate Student Success
  • Connections with peer mentors
  • Workshops related to academic success, leadership and career development
  • High-impact activities such as out-of-state travel
  • Recognition events

Create Connection: Fund Our Peer Mentor Program and Tailored Workshops

First-generation students are trailblazers in their families but the transition to a large university can be challenging to navigate without family experiences to guide them. After completing one year in the program, Arts & Sciences Leadership Scholars may apply to become peer mentors to help new students feel seen, heard and part of our community. During weekly connection group meetings, peer mentors discuss time management and other study habits, campus resources, leadership opportunities and research options.

Help Us Provide Life-Changing Aggie Experiences

We offer Arts & Sciences Leadership Scholars opportunities to participate in a variety of activities beyond their academic classes to build skills and broaden their Texas A&M experience. These initiatives offer the following benefits to our scholars:

  • A true sense of belonging
  • Academic and navigational support
  • Personal growth and confidence
  • Retention and persistence
  • Leadership development
  • Cultural and emotional understanding

High impact experiences of recent ASLS students include:

  • Interacting with faculty, staff and future employers
  • Reflective and integrative learning
  • Community and service-based learning
  • Research with professors
  • Participation in the Global Medical Brigade
  • Serving as supplemental instruction leaders for Math teaching programs, First-2-Finish, and Hullabaloo U
  • Participation in student organizations
  • Corps of Cadets

The fact that this entire program is first-gen led makes every connection more meaningful and every conversation more real. From professional workshops to heartfelt check-ins, ASLS has given me tools, confidence and a sense of belonging I never knew I needed. This is not just a program; it is a life-changing experience, and I am beyond grateful to be part of something that is turning potential into purpose.
