Biography

Peggy Carris is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology & Criminology at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. She earned her B.S. in Sociology from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in 2017 and her Ph.D. in Sociology from Texas A&M University in 2025. Her research centers on Sociology of Education and the intersections of Race, Class, and Gender. Her work currently focuses on two primary areas: the first explores the sense of belonging among first-generation college students, examining how identity and school context shape their experiences, and the second examines educational inequities affecting Latine students in the U.S.-Mexico Border region. Her recent publication in Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, titled “Reading, Writing, and Harassment: White–Latinx Test Score Disparities on the U.S.-Mexico Border,” finds that reading and math test score disparities widen with proximity to the Border.
