A minor in sociology can be a valuable complement to a degree in almost any field of study. You will select from a variety of courses to enhance the ability to live and work effectively in a diverse and global society. You'll gain a better understanding of social diversity, cultural trends, inequalities, organizational behavior and community and world events.

Learn to address real world problems by:

  • Developing realistic and equitable solutions

  • Practicing responsibility for one’s own and others’ performance to improve processes and make improvements

Sociology provides an excellent background for students wishing to enter into helping professions like

It also provides an outstanding foundation for law, marketing, human resources, journalism, government, business management and entrepreneurship.

Sociology Minor Information in the Catalog

 

Sociology Minor Requirements

Basics of the Sociology minor:

  • The SOCI minor consists of 15 hours of coursework.
  • 9 hours of Sociology coursework must be at the 300/400 level.
  • In order to use a course towards the Sociology minor, a C or better grade is required.

Requirements for adding a Sociology minor are as follows:

  • You must have grades posted for at least one completed semester at Texas A&M University
  • You must have a 2.0 overall GPA or higher
  • You must have completed at least one sociology course
  • You must have a 2.0 overall GPA or higher in your sociology coursework
  • You must not have completed more than 90 hours

Exceptions may be made to the 90 hour rule for students whose coursework suggests having made substantial progress towards the completion of the minor. Exceptions may be made regarding the completion of at least one sociology course for students applying as part of the Undergraduate Studies major application.
